Fuel economy and output improvement technologies
Fuel economy and output performance is improved by employing the new one
cam to four valves VTEC system in addition to using fuel-saving oil and
applying plateau honing to the cylinders.
Low-speed torque improvement technologies
Low-speed torque performance is improved by applying mainly two
technologies: the variable port length intake manifold for adequate intake air
inertia effect during low- to high-speed operations, and piston cooling by piston
oil jets for high compression ratio and appropriate ignition timing.
Crankshaft rumble noise reduction technologies
Crankshaft rumble noise is reduced with a more rigid block structure for the
lower case in which the bearing caps are incorporated.
SULEV rating conformance technologies
An extremely low emission level conforming to the SULEV rating is achieved by
applying a two-bed system to the catalyst just below the exhaust manifold and
employing a new ETCS plus MAF (mass air flow) control.
Light weight technologies
Use of a plastic intake manifold and high-strength fracture-split connecting rod
and cap combinations has reduced the engine weight.
