外文资料 A compact bike head lamp design based on a white LED operated at one watt Abstract:A design of a compact bike head lamp meeting the K mark regulation based on a white LED by Cree XP-C is presented. The proposed design contains three parts, one is a parabolic mirror, another is a flat mirror and the other is a lens. The design performed a contrast of 66.7 across the cut-off line by the K-mark regulation, and a prototype fabricated by a simple CNC machining was measured a contrast of 12.4 across the cut-off line. The successful design requests the LED operated at only 1W, and it enables an user to operate the lamp longer with energy saving . Introduction Solid-state light source such as light emitting diodes (LEDs) has been extensively studied for its potential applications, includ- ing outdoor, indoor and vehicle forward lighting owing to the advantages, including compact size, fast response, free of mercury, wide color range, high efficiency and long life [1,2]. Recently, through the great progress in manufacture and cost down, LEDs have become one of the major light sources in practical lighting applications. In the application to vehicle forward lighting, LEDs have been installed in some cars and motorcycles. For the application on a bike, LEDs have already been proposed for forward lamp with a limited power. However, most head lamps have spot light rather than a light pattern following specific regulations. Regulations like K mark, that request that the lighting pattern should have a high-contrast horizontal cut-off line [3,4]. Below the cut-off line, as shown in Fig. 1, a brightest spot HV surrounded by some bright zones with sufficient illumination is required. In contrast, the brightness beyond the cut-off line should be small enough to prevent glare to people in the opposite direction.
