It hoped to establish close communication and cooperation with UN offices in China to promote the fulfillment of COSCO Group’s corporate social responsibilities by making use of the platform of the UN, to play active role in the objective to build up of a well-off society in an all round way, and support the UN’s objectives to improve human rights protection, labor standards and environmental protection. In January 2005, COSCO Group got the approval and became a member of UN Global Compact. In March 2006, COSCO Group joined the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) to promote the harmonious development of the world with transnational companies in the world. As a responsible enterprise, COSCO Group has performed the social responsibilities and sustainable development requirements from strategic level. Based on Global Compact management system and the management system of the sustainable development, COSCO Group has compiled the 2005 Sustainable Development Report according to the GRI’s requirements on sustainable development report strictly, and tried to satisfy the requirements on release of annul reports to COSCO Group as a member of Global Compact and a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
