Methods T hir ty healthy adult SD rats were randomly divided into three gr oups, namely, ventral root transection g roup ( VRT group, received left L - L ventral rhizotomy) , dorsal root transection group ( DRT g roup, received left L - L dorsal rhizotomy) , and sciatic 4 6 4 6 nerve transection group ( SNT g roup, received left sciatic nerve transection ) . Each g roup comprised 10 SD rats. T he bilateral gastrocnemius was harvested 10 weeks after operation to observe the apoptosis and Fas/ FasL expression of the skeletal muscle cells through fluorescent labeling, transmission electron microscopy, and immunohistochemistry. Result Ten weeks after the denervation, apoptosis related changes, especially obvious changes of the nuclear apoptotic morpholog y, were observed in the skeletal muscle cells.
