Soilm icroorganism s play an irreplaceable role in maintaining soil health and q ality, contain trem endo s econom ic val es in agric lt re, chem ica,l ind strial and pharm ace tical ind stries, and in addition have great potentials in allev iating environmental crises s ch as global warm ing and loss of biodiversity. Therefore, the linkage betw een soil m icrodiversity and their ecological services, and the comprehensive managem ent of soil m icrobial reso rces are considered necessary to maintain the stability of terrestrial ecosystems and to strengthen ecosystem s prod ctiv ity. H erein, w e rev iew ed the mi proved techniq es for detecting and monitoring soilm icrobes and their applications as a s stainable reso rce in m any areas, predom inantly in the enhancem ent and conservation of soil fertility, in the elmi ination and reg lation of soil obstacles, and in the rem ediation and control of soil contam ination.
