N anj i ng R D I nstit ute , Z TE Corp oration , N anj i ng 2 100 12 , Chi na) Abstract :A formal approach based on DL ontologies is presented to support multiple representation , which virtually implies t he cap ability to model and access geograp hic information flexibly under different resolutions or different viewpoint s. As an explicit sp ecification of conceptualization , ontology is adept in semantic expression and plays a key role in information sharing and integration . It is promising to constructing a conceptual data model close to geo grap hic realit y based on formal ontologies. In order to formalize t he basic topological relationship s between regions and t he varying semantics due to different viewpoint s or levels of abstract , two extensions about concrete domain and context are made resp ectively to classical description Logics.
