Unit3 Art and Architecture Period 4 LANGUAGE STUDY Teaching aims: 1. Learn to guess the meanings of words according to the context. 2. Learn the structure: A is to B what C is to D. 3. Help the students to summarize the features and use the past participle as object complement. Teaching aids: A computer for macromedia use Teaching important points: Words and phrases ( furniture, convenient, roof, despite, nest...) A is to B what C is to D Grammar (the past participle as object complement) Teaching difficult points: Grammar (the past participle as object complement) Teaching methods: pair work, games, practice Teaching procedures: Step one: Playing a game Show 8 words on screen. One student explain, the other guess the words. (roof ,ugly, architect, honey, net, furniture, media, nest) Step two: Observe and find a structure. Show two sentences to student. 1. A nest is to bird what a house is to a man. 2. We are to them what fish is to water. Let them fill in the blanks to practise the sentence pattern. 1. Honey is to a bee what milk is to a cow. 2. Smell is to the nose what taste is to the tongue. 3. A sail is to a boat what an engine is to a car.. 4. Arms are to the body what branches are to a tree. 5. A net is to a fisherman what a gun is to a hunter. Step three: grammar Show sentences on screen and try to find the structure. 1. I got my leg broken yesterday. 2. He made his voice heard. 1. have/get/make/keep/leave + sb/ sth + done I heard my name called. 2. feel/find/hear/notice/see +sb/ sth +done How would you like the book paid for? 3. like/order/wish/want sb/sth (to be) done With his work finished, he went home. 4. with +sb/sth +done Step four: Practice Part one: Translate the sentences using the past participle as object complement. 我不希望别人在他背后说他的坏话。 他终于成功地使人理解了他自己。 我感到有人打了我的背。 房子被洪水摧毁后他无家可归。 1.I don’t want / wish bad words said about him behind his back. 2.
