Because of th e low h elical p itch employ ed in the cardiac acqu isition protocols, radiation dose to p atient is high . n this pap er, we present a different data acquisition and image recon struction technique that redu ces dose to patient by 50% 89%. The k ey en abler for such techniqu e is th e large volume cov erage (40mm) of the 64-slice scann er. Compared to an average heart size of 120mm to 140mm th e new VCT scanner is capab le of covering the entire organ in 3 to 4 steps. n conjunction with the n ew acqu isition, w e present a complimentary recon stru ction algorithm that ov ercomes incomplete projection samples.
