Abstract: In this paper, the semi-active controller platform comprising the Bouc-Wen model of MR 
damper, semi-active control law, and an elastic-plastic damage material model of steel are developed 
into LS-DYNA program. The damage criteria of steel frame and concrete tube are proposed, together 
with the dissipated internal energy of each story, the maximal control force produced by MR dampers 
at   different   stories   are   optimally   determined.   As  a   numerical   example,   the   dynamic   responses   and 
damage process of a 15-story steel-concrete hybrid structure without MR dampers, with MR dampers 
located between steel frame and concrete core tube, and with MR dampers between the columns of 
steel frame are analyzed. Dynamic responses results indicate that both the two styles of locations of 
MR dampers can reduce the story drift of structure to some extent, however, because of the limited 
deformation   capacity   of   concrete   core   tube,   the   MR   dampers   cannot   suppress   the   weak   links   of 
structures definitely. Damage analysis results show that the steel frame experiences no damage even 
under 0.3g earthquake motions, while the reinforced concrete tube is significantly damaged and close 
to   collapse,   and   the   deformation   capacity   of   the   reinforced   concrete   tube   should   be   increased   to 
improve the seismic performance of the hybrid structure.
