* Samples: 1. Recently we’ve conducted a survey between some top students and some who are poor in academic performance. An unexpected finding is worth paying attention to: compared to the top students, those poor in academic performance spend relatively more time learning and less time sleeping. Then why do they lag behind in their studies? The reason probably lies in the following two aspects. Firstly, for lack of sleep at night, they feel sleepy in class and can’t master what they should learn. Secondly, they have to spend longer time finishing homework, which in turn leads to their staying up too late and being less energetic in class the next day. So in my opinion, in order to improve their academic performance, they must ensure enough sleep at night and enough energy in class. As a saying goes, “10 minutes in class is worth an hour out”. Only in this way will they not only have lessons attentively, but also save time for their homework and revision. In a word, the key to solving their problem is to improve learning efficiency. 2. It is commonly held that top students spend more time studying than others. But the result turned out to be different. The academic students takes 9 hours to study and 7.5hours to sleep, while some who behave poorly in their schoolwork spend 10.5 hours on study and 6 hours sleeping. Gone are the days when top students buried themselves in study. These who are poor in academic performance don’t have enough energy in class on account of less sleep/lack of sleep. The majority of them sleep in class instead. How can we learn well if not absorbed in class? Besides, a few of them even copy others’ homework. As a matter of fact, never should we copy if we intend to achieve good academic results. From what we have discussed above, we can safely arrive at the conclusion that the most important factor to study well is listening attentively to teachers in school.
