专业英语教师的自我训练:藉由产学合作的模式 苏 绣 惠 摘 要 本研究旨在调查英语教师藉由与当地一所医院的合作模式,作为专业英语教师自我训练的可能性与有效性。由于经费、时间、教材内容与取材等的限制,英语文教师常不容易与专业教师合作。专业英语教师亦经常困扰于英语文与专业之间择一之不足的窘境。如何协助英语教师藉由与产业界的合作成为有效率的专业英语教师,以帮助具有专业背景但英语文能力不足却在工作上急需此一语言技能的专业人士。本研究以问卷及访谈为研究工具以探讨产学合作、产业界的需求分析及专业教师自我训练的可行性。研究结果显示产学合作的模式,以此研究案为例,如训练在职医护服务人员,其成效已符合业者的需求。英语教师亦可藉此合作模式自我训练为专业英语教师。 关键词 专业英文、产学合作、需求分析、教师自我训练 ABSTRACT This study aims to investigate the possibility and the effectiveness of the cooperative model set by the educational institutions and local organizations and the English teachers’ self-training as the ESP teachers through the model of Industry-University Cooperation. As a language teacher, it is always problematic to seek the possibilities working with the subject teachers in terms of the cost and time (Kennedy Bolitho, 1984). Robinson (1990) also stressed that subject-language integration is very untidy in practice. ESP teachers are struggling between language teaching and the knowledge of special subjects. It is essential that how to help the language teachers to become an effective ESP practitioner by reaching out to the local organisations and how to utilize the language teachers’ specialty to help those who have professional background and with immediate language needs, but lack language skills. The questionnaire and interview are employed. Need Analysis, ESP teacher training, Industry-University Cooperation are discussed. The results designate the model of Industry-University Cooperation, in terms of staff training course in this case, has met the needs of the Industry (hospital) as well as help with nurses and staffs’ English proficiency. It also implies that the English teachers may seek the opportunity of self-training through the Industry- University Cooperative program to cross over from the language side to the other “side of the fence” (de Beaugrande, 2000).
