Three methods of electromagnetic force calculation are presented, including empirical equations, division of magnetic path and FEM. Comparisons between these 3 methods are performed with an engineering example. The FEM is more suitable than other 2 methods because it can take the magnetic leakage and the nonlinear property of the material into account.
