It w as forme of the tw o collocate antonymous a jectives hao ( or goo ) an ai ( or ba ) . On the basis of the examples foun in the ocuments, this paper is an attempt to elineate the evelopment process of the meaning of hao ai, systematically stu y the grammaticalization an subjectivization of hao ai from the cognitive perspective, an reveal its inner motivation an cognitive law . Accor ing to its ifferent functions, hao ai can be ivi e into noun an a verb. The noun hao ai has tw o origins. One is that it becomes a unilateral compoun ue to the loss of the meaning of one component; tw o is that by means of metonymy it in icates the result of things or situations.
