Design of High Illumination Uniformity LED Luminaires
for Plant Tissue Culture

Abstract: While LED lighting industry is developing very fast, LED luminaires are replacing traditional luminaires
as the light sources for plant tissue culture. Uniformity of illumination of 0.6 m2 plant tissue culture shelf illuminated
by two and three light tubes is studied respectively. A new method of only optimizing the LED package distribution
of the light tubes with no additional optical components to achieve higher uniformity of illumination within the tissue
culture shelf is proposed. The uniformity of illumination is improved by about 60 percent for both cases (two and
three lighting tubes per shelf).
