T he sing le m inera l flotat ion test show s that both siderite and hem at ite can be intensive ly depressed by starch, yet, starch, a m odified one, possesses a w eak depressing effect on siderite, therew ith it can be considered as a selective depressor in the separation of sider ite and hem atite. The test of m ineral surface electric po tentia l proved that in a pulp w ith a pH va lue of over 10, starch could have a selective depression effect on siderite. The infrared spectra ana lysis show s that, a new characteristic peak could generate because of the adsorption of starch onto siderite surface w hich contributed a w eak depression effect. The adso rpt ion m anner of starch on hem atite is chem ical adsorption, w hich resu lts in the rem arkable enhancem ent of hydroph ilicity for hem atite and the purpose of depression can be achieved accord ing ly.
