In experiment 1, six hundred ( h alf m ales and half fem ales) one- day-old Arbor Acre broilers w ere raised durin d 1 to 21, d 22 to 42 and d 43 to 49. Five diets contai- nin dif ferent protein levels w ere used durin each of the three periods includin the starter period ( 221 8% , 2 11 9% , 2 11 0% , 191 5% and 191 0% C P, d 1 t o 2 1) , rower period ( 201 1% , 181 8% , 171 8% , 161 5% and 161 0% CP, d 22 to 42) and finisher period ( 181 0% , 161 9% , 151 9% , 151 0% and 131 8% C P, d 43 to 49)1 All diets were form ulated to m eet the t o- t al am ino acid requirements for methionine , lysine and threonine. In experiment 2, f ive diets approximately containin the CP level as th ose used in the starter and rower periods in experiment 1 were supplemented with suf ficient cryst alline am ino acids to meet the di estible amino acid requirements for all essential am ino acids ( EAA) .
