We cannot afford to lose our beautiful environment Hello, everyone! My name is Wang Ying. I am from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering. The topic of my speech is “we cannot afford to lose our beautiful environment.” In our social life, of course, there are many things we cant afford to lose such as ideal, dignity and so on, but, as an environmental science student, I think, the first thing we cant afford lose is our beautiful environment. As we all know, we have only one earth, only one home. But along with the industrial development and the improvement of peoples living standard, we have witnessed all kinds of exhaust emissions, wastewater discharge, and garbage littered everywhere in our life, and all these have caused severe damages to us. In December 1952, Britain had the London smog episode . 12000 people lost their lives in this disaster. That is the earth, our environment, giving our warnings. And, in more and more places, we cannot find not polluted river, What’s more, a lot of cities’ air quality is not up to the standard. Because of these polluted air and polluted water, more and more people died of respiratory infections per year. A recent data shows there are about 11000 people dying from environmental pollution every year. Although the environmental protection has gained some attention, but many people still believe that environmental protection has nothing to do with them, so they still persist in ones old ways by wasting natural resources without limit and polluting our environment without care. Environmental protection work is of no real development up till now. We cant afford to lose our earth, we can not afford to lose our homes, and we can not afford to lose our beautiful environment. As a college student, we should start from ourselves, saving water and electricity, and do not litter garbage in everyday life. More importantly, we should promote people’s consciousness of environ
