W e established a model of ser ies optim izat ion fo r the pow er supply transfor mer used fo r high pow er, high vo ltag e and hig h fr equency . W ith the ideal bipolar squar e cur rent w avefo rm, we der ived the r elationship be tw een the o ptimum number of w inding lay er s and the o ptimum thickness of w inding layer by t he Dow ell fo rmula. M or eo ver , we put for war d an equiv alent area arithmetic to conver t the optimum number of w inding lay ers fo r copper to the equivalent optimum number of w inding layers fo r r ound conductor s, then the optimum heig ht of w inding w as obtained. R esults show that the ser ies assures the hig h capacity of a transfor mer, and the optimum design declines the hig hfrequency effect and loss. T herefo re, if the number of windings is known, it is feasible to reasonablely cal culate and optimize the heig ht of w indings, the number of winding layers and the o pt imum thickness of winding lay er . F inally, ex periment show s that this op
