Discussion on Dispersion Characteristics of a Tilted Birefringent
Filter

Abstract: We present theoretical investigations of the second- and the third-order
group delay dispersion caused by a tilted birefringent filter (TBF) that is composed of
a tilted birefringent plate sandwiched between two linear polarizers. By using Jones
matrix we deduced the expression for the group delay of a TBF and calculated the
corresponding second- and the third-order dispersion. The influence of the parameters
such as the thickness, the tilting angle and the rotation angle of the birefringent plate
on dispersions are analyzed. Comparison between the dispersion characteristics of a
Gires-Tournois interferometer (GTI) and those of TBF is also presented.
