Stylistic analysis Stylistic analysis is generally concerned with the uniqueness of a text; that is, what it is that is peculiar to the uses of language in a literary text for delivering the message. This naturally involves comparisons of the language of the text with that used in conventional types of discourse. Thus, we may conclude that stylistic analysis is an activity that is highly comparative in nature. The level of phonology The level of graphology The level of lexis The level of syntax / grammar The level of semantics Phonology is the study of the rules for the organization of the sound systems of a language. Graphology is the study of the writing system of a language. Lexicology studies the choice of specific lexical items in a text, their distribution in relation to one another, and their meanings Syntax refers to rules for ordering and connecitng words into sentences. Semantics studies the overall meaning of a text, the meaning derived from the way sentences / utterances are used and the way they are related to the context in which they are used / uttered and some rhetoric devices. The Level of Phonology /Phonological Markers Phonology is the study of the rules for the organization of the sound systems of a language. So far as the sound system of the English language is concerned, we have SEGMENTALs and SUPRA-SEGMENTALs (or PROSODIC韵律的FEATUREs). In spoken language, different elements may produce different stylistic effects: stress, length, pause, intonation, speed of delivery, voice quality and so on. Take stress for example: Word stress---sentence stress Mart ate the apple on the table. The stress should be put on Mary, ate, apple, table in natural speech.
