The survey was performed to 617 medically serious attempted suicides identified in the emergency rooms of nine general hospitals in central China and, independently, to their accompanying family members. The comparison of the characteristics of medically serious attempted suicides who ingested pesticides to those of 149 who used other methods was performed. The result concluded that the substantial proportion of low-intent suicide attempts that involve pestilent pesticide ingestion was the main character and the victim consists of rural females mainly.
