英国大学学术水平评估工程领域涉及的学科 Research Assessment Exercises have been held in the UK in 1986, 1989, 1992, 1996, 2001 and 2008. History of the RAE The first RAE was undertaken in 1986. For the first time it introduced an explicit and formalised assessment process of the quality of research. Further exercises held in 1989, 1992 and 1996 became gradually more transparent, comprehensive and systematic. The fifth exercise in 2001 considered the work of almost 50,000 researchers in 2,598 submissions from 173 HEIs. The RAE is the principal means by which institutions assure themselves of the quality of the research undertaken in the HE sector. The most recent RAE was RAE2008. The submission deadline for RAE2008 was 30 November 2007. 2,344 submissions were made by 159 HEIs, and the results were published on 18 December 2008. The UOA includes all areas of electrical and electronic engineering, including but not limited to: communications; electronic materials and devices; microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and nanoelectronics; bioelectronics; electronic systems and circuits; optoelectronics and optical communications systems; communications and networks; multimedia; video and audio processing and coding; signal and image processing, modelling and estimation; radio frequency (RF) techniques up to terahertz; antennae and radar; measurement, instrumentation, sensors; control, robotics and systems engineering; electrical power systems, machines and drives; power electronics; computer and software engineering.
