Abstract
A model of ch ip form ation for hi hspeed mach in in w as proposed. A serial of parametersw ere built
to assess the deformation of the chip se ment. Turnin expermi ents w ere carried out on a k ind of h i h
stren th stee,l AerM et100, to validate the mode.l A further discussions were m ade on the expermi ental
resu lts on w hich amodel of chip formation at d ifferent cuttin speeds w as developed. The mechan ism s of
ch ip deformation at the d ifferent cuttin speeds w ere studied qualitatively. It was found that w ith the
increase of cuttin speed, thematerial dynam ic y ield stren th, tensile stren th w ou ld be stren thened and
the influence of thermal soften in effect, strain hardenin effect would be w eakened, wh ich cou ld
decided ly lead to the onset of serrated ch ip.
