Students: 40 Junior high school students, Grade 1.
Lesson duration: 45 mins:
Teaching objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
say in English the qualities of a hero should have;
ask and answer questions about one’s favorite hero;
use interview strategies to find out information and take notes;
learn to be a good listener and able to describe a person in English.
Teaching contents: vocabulary of qualities
Do you think …is a hero? Why?
Teaching aids:tapes, blackboard, chalk, PPT, pictures, white papers
Type of the lesson: vocabulary, speaking
Teaching procedure:
Step 1. Review (10 mins)
warm up: a short video: Superman
students draw pictures of a hero in their minds, and share them in groups.
Student volunteer to present their pictures and words.
Teacher summarizes, and writes the words on board.
Step 2. Learn the new words (15 mins)
Use pictures and actions to introduce the words. Use the structure: what kind of person he/she is ? He /She is …
Students learn to say the words with the help of pictures.
Step 3. A task: Use what has learned to do an interview. (10 mins)
Group-work. An interview

Step 4. More practice (10 mins)
Play a guessing game. Work in groups of four. One student writes the name of a hero on a piece of paper, and the others guess by asking questions. Teacher demonstrates first.
Use PPT to show some great causes done and personal qualities possessed by a certain hero whose name isn’t told and ask students to guess his/her name. Such as unselfish, devoted, ready to help, generous…and some other qualities.
Homework: write a short paragraph to introduce the greatness of a hero you know, or an ideal image of a hero.
