College fo nvironmental Science and ngineering, Hohai University , Nanj ing 210098, China) Abstract:By analyzing the factors influ encing the w idth of a riparian buffer strip an index system for the suitability evaluation of the w idth of a riparian buffer strip is established . Using the N iushoushan River buffer strip as an example the w eight of each evaluat ion index w as identified by the analyt ic hierarchy process (AHP) . The suitability of the width w as evaluated by an integrated method of distance index-AHP. The results show that the w idth of the Niushoushan River buffer strip is suitable.
