Coins mysteriously appear in truks in Enland
They say money doesn’t grow on trees. But it certainly appears to do so on the mysterious coin trunks dotted around the UK’s woodland. The strange situation appears on the old trees with coins stuck into all over their bark. The coins are usually knocked into tree trunks using stones by passers-by who hope it will bring them good fortune①.
On these fascinating trees, there are often coins from centuries ago that were buried deep in their bark and some coins even have been out of shape by the passage of time. The tradition of making offerings to gods at wishing trees dates back hundreds of years, but this combination② of the man-made and the natural is far more rare. It used to be believed that gods and spirits lived in trees, and the trees were often tied with sweets and gifts, which is still done today at Christmas. The act makes people remind to shake the money on trees into ponds for good luck, or the trend for couples to tie “love locks’” to bridges and fences, which stands for lasting romance.
There are seven tree trunks with coins pushed into them in the beautiful village of Portmeirion, in Wales. “We had no idea why it was being done when we first noticed the tree trunk was being filled with coins,” Meurig Jones, manager of a tourist company, told reporters 揑 made a probe and discovered that trees were sometimes used as 憌ishing trees ’. In Britain it dates back to the 1700s when there was one tree in Scotland somewhere which apparently had a coin stuck into it.?t
Old Faithful——the most famous geyser in the world
Old Faithful usually erupts② about every 65 minutes. But the timetable is not always regular. Sometimes there have been only 30 minutes between eruptions, and sometimes the eruptions have been as long as an hour and a half.
A geyser is a spring of water. But unlike most springs, it builds up steam, and the pressure of the steam makes it erupt. There are about 200 geysers in Yellowstone. The Giant
