Ch ina) Abstract: OBJECTIVE To investigate the level and characterization of E scherich ia coli( E. coli) isolated from healthy people in Pudong new area of Shanghai and detect the d istribu tion and structure of resistance integron. M ETHOD Antibiotics susceptibility of 17 antib ioticsw as tested by the disk d iffusion m ethod. The presence of class 1, class 2 and class 3 integrase w ere exam ined by PCR, and then the variable region betw een the conserved segm ent of class 1 integronw as am plified. The integron con tent was characterized by restricted enzym e fragm ent length polym orphism s ( RFLP) and sequenced. RE ULT The mu ltip le resistance rate ofE. coli isolated from healthy people in Pudong new area of Shanghaiw as 63. % . But the resistancew asm ain ly to older antibiotics. The newer antibiot- icsw ere still suscep tible. Int 1w as detected in 38. % of the isolates; int 2 w as detected in 4% isolates, both int 1 and int 2 w ere detected in other 2( 1% ) isolates and no int 3 was detected. CONCLU ION Res istance inE . coli isolated from healthy people is comm on, and the resistance integrons also w idely d istribute in comm on people.
