Characters Charles F. Muntz Carl Russel Kevin Dug Plot Carl is a shy and quiet boy who idolizes(崇拜) the famous explorer(探险家) Charles F. Muntz. Muntz says that he discovered a giant bird in Paradise Falls, South America. However, others don’t believe him, so Muntz decides to return there to capture one alive(活捉). One day, Carl makes friend with an energetic girl named Ellie, who is also a Muntz fan(粉丝). She tells Carl her desire to move her house to Paradise Falls. Carl and Ellie finally get married and grow old together.Carl earns his living by selling balloons in the park. Unable to have children, they save money for the trip to South America. However, before they can go, Ellie suddenly becomes ill. Shortly after, Ellie dies, leaving Carl alone. A short time later, Carl is forced to sell the house and move into a retirement home（敬老院）. However, Carl comes up with a plan to keep his promise to Ellie: he turns his house into a plane, using thousands of balloons to lift it up. A boy named Russell joins Carl by accident. Finally, the house arrives at Paradise Falls. After walking for a while, Russel sees a tall, colorful bird (named Kevin). They are joined by a dog (named DugRussell wants to bring them both along for the journey, while Carl wants to get rid of(摆脱) them. They are taken to Dugs master, Charles Muntz who invites Carl and Russell aboard his house. Muntz discovers that Kevin is just the kind of bird he is looking for. So he becomes hostile (充满敌意的) and wants to take Kevin away, but Russell determines to send Kevin home. After a long and tiring struggle, Carl succeeds in saving Kevin and realizing his dream.
