Relationship Between baPWV and IMT for Patients with Preclinical Atherosclerosis and the Preliminary Discuss of the Syndrome Differentiation Type of TCM Speciality: Internal medicine integrated tcm-wm Author: Wang yan Tutor: Wang ying Abstract Objective: To investigate the relationship between brachial-ankle artery pulse wave velocity （baPWV ）and IMT for patients with preclinical atherosclerosis and the relationship between baPWV and gender, body mass index （BMI ）, low-density lipoprotein （LDL-C ）, high sensitivity C-reactive protein （hs-CRP ）and high-density lipoprotein （HDL-C ）, then show a new method for checking out the early atherosclerosis. Meanwhile, try to discuss Chinese Medicine syndrome type of preclinical atherosclerosis. Method: Across-sectional study was carried out among 98 patients without history of clinical coronary disease, stroke or peripheral artery disease and without other CHD factors at risk (judgment standards of the diseases are detailed in the attached sections of the body paper). carotid ultrasound and baPWV examinations were performed and the blood samples were taken and then analyzed. Get the syndrome type according to 《Guiding Principles for the Clinical Study of Chinese Medicines(for Trail Implementation)》. Result: baPWV was higher in patients with carotid atherosclerosis than those without carotid atherosclerosis. baPWV was positively associated with carotid atherosclerosis by using chi-squaretest analysis. Another thing, baPWV was positively related with LDL-C, hs-CRP, gender and negatively related with BMI, have no obvious relationship with baPWV. Conclusion: High baPWV is a strong correlate for carotid atherosclerosis among patients with non-CHD-factor at risk. Besides, it always has relationships with gender, BMI, LDL-
