An observation and analysis of the micrometeorological
characteristics of the Nanjing urban boundary layer, eastern China

Abstract: The urban boundary layer experiment was carried out at two sites during the periods of 20051 71 17 ~
71 1 and 2006. 2. 18~ . 10. The tw o sites are located at the center of Nanjing cit y and its suburb, respectively.
Urban heat island( UH I) effects w ere also observed by self-propelled inst rument and aspirated psychrometer at other
six stable sit es. The observation results show t hat there exist obvious UH I phenomenon in Nanjing city. T he air
temperature reduces gradually from the city to the suburb. The average UH I intensities in summer and winter are~
01 8 e and~ 11 2 e , respectively. The UHI intensit y is bigger in clear day t han in cloud day, and always larger in
nights than in days. The maximums of the U HI in summer and winter are~ 1 6 e and~ 214 e
