Constant andToqueville were the two most famous thinkers. The most important question they thought over was how to protect the individual freedom in the coming democratic society. They analysed the idea of freedom, the dilemmas of limitless popular sovereignty, the tyranny of majority, the significance of autonomous corporation to freedom and the utili- ty of democracy, which contributed a lot to the development of liberal and democratic theory.
