BERKELEY VISITING SCHOLARS PROGRAM 2013 TANG DISTINGUISHED SCHOLARS APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS APPLICATION DEADLINE: JUNE 1, 2013 Program Description The goal of the Berkeley Visiting Scholars Program – Tang Distinguished Scholars is to enhance scientific and technological standards throughout the world by developing cooperative relationships between the best scholars at the threshold of their careers in China and established research leaders at the University of California, Berkeley. Tang Scholars are selected from among the most distinguished scholars from the People’s Republic of China – who are early in their careers in the biological sciences (neurobiology, genetics, cell developmental biology, immunology, biochemistry molecular biology), physical sciences (physics, astronomy, mathematics, earth and planetary Science), engineering (bioengineering, civil environmental engineering, electrical engineering computer sciences, industrial engineering operations research, materials science engineering, mechanical engineering), or chemistry – to spend 2 years at the University of California, Berkeley undertaking research in their field of specialty. Those selected to be Tang Scholars will have demonstrated extraordinary capability in research and unusual potential for research leadership at the time of their nomination. Tang Scholars expand their capabilities in research, build lasting research relationships with Berkeley, and develop their ability to lead research and technology developments in their home institutions and in China to the highest levels. While the program will be adjusted to the needs of the individual scholars and their fields, those selected should commit to spending two years working as a colleague in research in an appropriate laboratory or program at Berkeley.
