= Abstract Chron ic myeloid leukem ia ( CML ) is a malignant and proliferating d isease originating from m ultipotent
hem opoietic stem cel.l It is characterized by a specific chromosom al translocation, t( 9; 22), that resulting in a short-
ened chromosom e 22, comm on ly referred to as the Ph iladelph ia ( Ph) chrom osom e. Ph chromosom e is a translocation
of the distal deleted segm en t of 22q to the distal portion of 9q, form ing bcr/abl fusion gene. The bcr/ ab l fusion gene
express P2 0 - ( bcr/abl), P 90 - ( bcr/ ab l) or P230 - ( bcr/abl) protein w hich has abnorm al h igh activity of tyrosine
k inase, abnorm ally transform the hem atopoietic stem cells and result in CML. Over the last yearswe have gotten great
progress in treatment of chronicm yeloid leukem iaw ith the use of hem otapoietic stem cell transp lantation, interferon-
a and comb ination chemotherapy, especially w ith the discovery and research of effective drugs, for exam ple mi atinib
m esylate and sod ium arsen ite. In this review, w ew ill summarize the recent advance in CML therapy of integrated tradi-
tional Ch inese andw estern m ed icine.
