Zhejiang Gongshang University Hangzhou City, China October 2011 Organisational behaviour LEVEL: Undergraduate COURSE CO-ORDINATOR: Professor Fang Lee Cooke CREDIT RATING: 2 Organisational Behaviour Course Unit Design This course unit introduces key themes and contemporary debates in organisational behaviour (OB) and human resource management (HRM). Eight taught sessions will be carried out in the course unit in addition to a presentation session for course work assignment and general queries about the course unit. Each taught session deals with one or two thematic topics which are closely related, as shown in the table below. Throughout the whole course, students are encouraged to study each topic through a critical lens and challenge existing perspectives. Students are also encouraged to use their own experience of work and life to inform and make sense of what are discussed in the class. Themes for each session No. of Hours Nature of work and employee wellbeing 3 hours Management function and management development 3 hours Organisational structure 3 hours Managing information 3 hours Leadership and communication 3 hours Ethics, corporate social responsibility and HRM 3 hours Organisational culture and diversity management 3 hours Globalisation, outsourcing and impact on work + course revision 3 hours Examination 2 hours Teaching/Learning Style A variety of learning styles is employed for the course. These include lectures, case studies, video scenarios and group debate. Students are encouraged to participate actively in class discussion and debate. Each session will incorporate a 3-hour lecture/group work. Some sessions will also require additional student-led group work outside the lecturing hours during which students can discuss and debate certain topics through case studies etc. in order to reinforce their understanding on the topics and to develop team-working skills.
