It is supposed thatWO phage may participate in controlling genetic changes of the hosts. Laodelphax striatellus p lanthoppers from four geographic populations of Ch ina ( M inhang, Shanghai; Puer, Yunnan; Jin ing, Shandong; Q ingtong ia, N ing ia) were bred on rice treated w ith an tib iotics. The infection rates of Wolbachia and WO phage w ere e am ined every wt enty days, and the infection relationsh ips betw een Wolbachia and W O phage w ere analyzed based on the data obtained. The results revealed that the infection rate ofWolbachia declinedw ith tmi e, and so w asWO phage. By using Real-tmi e quantitative PCR, we found that the copy numbers of Wolbach ia and WO phage varied w ith the developmental stages of adu lt female, display ing the h ighest quantity at 8 d post infection, and WO phage density show ed the same pattern as that of Wolbachia.
