Shougang Research Institute of T echnology, Beijing 100041, China) Abstract:Selfelevating platform plate F460 w as developed in 4 300 mm heavy plat e mill. It w as suggested that t he banding M/ A island caused weak toughness in the central posit ion and MnS induced low shrinkage of Z direction tensile. Specimens banding M/ A island could be avoided by reducing the content of carbon, manganese and in creasing cooling rates after rolling . And then satisfactory lowtemperature toughness could be gott en. Shrinkage of Z direction tensile specimens could be increased w hile the length of Si Ca w ire w as increased to change banding MnS to spherical hard deformat ion compound inclusion in steelmaking process.
