The second son Ya Zi 睚眦 拼音:Yázì : bad-tempered; inclined to fight; often appears on ancient weapons, seen on sword hilts, knife hilts and battle axes. It is said that his figure can add power to these weapons. The third son Chao Feng 嘲风 : fearless; loves to take risks and to watch from high places; he decorates the corners of palace roofs in ancient China. The fourth son Pu Lao 蒲牢 : fond of roaring; his figure is put on bell handles. He lives near the sea. Though he is one of the sons of the dragon, he fears to meet the big whale. When the whale attacks, he roars loudly because of fear. The fifth son Suan Ni 狻猊 拼音:Suānní : fond of smoke and fire; his figure is like a lion. His likeness can be seen on the legs of incense-burners. He is also used to guard the main door of a building. The sixth son Bi Xi 赑屃 拼音:Bìxì : has great strength; likes to carry heavy things. His figure is like a tortoise. So he is used to carry stone tablets with inscriptions. In China, many famous steles are carried by Bi Xi. The seventh son Bi An 狴犴 拼音:Bì’àn : The figure of Bi An is like that of a tiger. He is wise and can tell who is good or evil, so his figure is used to serve as decorations of prisons or courts. The eighth son Fu Xi (负屃 拼音:Fùxì : loves literature; his figures are carved on the sides of stone tablets with inscriptions. The ninth son Chi Wen 螭吻,又叫鸱尾、鸱吻 拼音,Chīwěn、Chīwěi、Chīwěn : likes swallowing things. Because of this, he is also called the Ridge-Swallowing Beast 吞脊兽 .
