PHRASAL VERBS IDIOMS to flow from something To be the result of something or to come from something e.g.: the politicians were sparkling: their debate was intellectually stimulating as their ideas and opinions just flowed from their mouths effortlessly. “to flow through to somebody or something” To have a reach, or have an effect, on somebody or something e.g.: 1) the electricity flowed right through the live wire to the poor man trying to fix his plug. 2) it will take awhile for the supplies to flow through to the troops. EXTRA: to flow down Similar in meaning to the phrasal verb to flow through but here the direction is more downwards e.g.: One principle of Thatcherite economics was for the capitalist wealth to flow down from the upper classes to the working classes. Unfortunately, it didnt work like that in practice. IDIOM: 1) a zap A quick, short, powerful shot of energy, like a zap of electricity e.g.: The herders gave some of the cattle a zap with their electric prods. 2) to be zapped To be destroyed by an electrical or laser force, or to be reheated in a microwave oven e.g.: The leftover chicken kebab was cold so I zapped it in the microwave. BONUS IDIOM: to zap To delete something or to turn down the volume on something e.g.: We recorded the TV show using our VCR, but zapped all the commercials.
