ABSTRACT
Super—parameterization(SP)aimstoexplicitlyrepresentdeepconvectionwithinacoarseresolutionglobal
modelbyembeddingacloudresolvingmodelfCRM 1ineachcolumnofthemothermode1．Forthefirst
time，weimplementedtheSP inamesoscaleregionalweathermodeltheGlobal／RegionalAssimilationand
PrEdictionSystem (GRAPES)．TheconstructedSP—GRAPESusesatwo—dimensional(2D1CRM ineach
gridcolumn．A controlandtwoSP simulationsareconductedfortheBeijing “7．21’’heavyrainfaiieventto
evaluateimprovementsinGRAPESusingSP．TheSP—run—IisabasicSPrundeliveringmicrophysicsfeedback
only．whereastheSP．run-IIdeliversboth microphysica1andcloud fractionfeedbacks．A comparisonofthe
runsindicatesthattheSP—run—Ihas aslightlypositiveimpactontheprecipitationforecastthanthecontrol
run．However．theinclusion ofcloudfractionfeedback1cadstoanevidentoverallimprovement．particularly
intermsofcloudfractionand24．hcumulativeprecipitation．Althoughthisisonlyapreliminarystudyusing
SP—GRAPES．webelievethatitwillprovideconsiderableguidanceofrfollow—upstudiesusingSP inChina．
