The teacher s job is tom ake every session of class room teaching effective and to ensure that learn ing does take p lace in the classroom. Based on the actualperform ances of the contestants in the F irst SF EP Cup National College English Teach ing Contest, th is paper analyzes the factors wh ich com prize effective teach ing from the aspects of the structure, contents and outcom esof classroom teach ing, and d iscusseswhat is ineffective teach ing. Apart from a good comm and of English, the paper stresses the mi portance of the teacher s m ethodologies and classroom m anagem ent techniques, the teacher s ab ility to m otivate students in classroom activities, to keep a balance betw een language input and language output, and to help students develop ap propriate learning strategies.
