This gas or liquid is known as refrigerant, and is the medium from which the cooling effect on a substance is obtained. Text: Liquid refrigerant leaving a container, called a liquid receiver, under pressure, passes through a throttling device that can regulate its flow to any desired amount. Throttling devices vary in design according to the type of service, and include the expansion valve , a capillary tube , and a liquid float valve .
