Intelligent Systems Regular Fuzzy Duo Rings N O B U A K I K U R O K I Department of Mathematics, Joetsu Universityof Education, Joetsu-sh~ Niigata-ken, 943 Japan A B S T R A C T In this paper, we shall introduce the concept of a fuzzybi-ideal, a fuzzy quasi-ideal in a ring, and give some properties of such fuzzy ideals. We also give a characterization of a regular fuzzy duo ring in terms of fuzzy ideals. 1. I N T R O D U C T I O N Many authors have studied the theory of fuzzy rings (for example, [1, 4]). A characterization of a regular ring by fuzzy ideals due to Gupta and Kantroo [1, Theorem 5.1] is very interesting. In this paper, we shall introduce the concepts of a fuzzy quasi-ideal and a fuzzy bi-ideal in a ring, and give another characterization of a regular ring. We also give a characterization of an intra-regular ring, both a regular and an intra- regular ring, and a regular duo ring in terms of fuzzy ideal. As is well known, a semigroup S is regular and intra-regular if and only if every fuzzy quasi-ideal of it is idempotent ([2, Theorem 3.2]), and a semigroup is regular duo if and only if f A g =f og for all fuzzy quasi-ideals f and g of S ([2, Theorem 5.1]), where (o) is the sup-min product of fuzzy subsets. In this paper (Theorem 5.4), we shall prove that a ring R is regular and duo if and only if every fuzzy quasi-ideal of R is idempotent, if and only if A n/x = h • ~ for all fuzzy quasi-ideals )t and /x of R.
