With the development of computer technology and digital technology becomes more mature, we can give full play to the computer and total station instrument that combines the advantages of efficient and fast calculation of earthwork. In this paper, from two aspects, data acquisition and data processing to discuss this issue. in terms of data acquisition from directional measurement method is proposed; in the aspect of data processing, with emphasis on grid method and DTM method to calculate the earthwork, the earthwork is divided into two categories - measuring area and the area has no arc by controlling the variables method and comparative analysis method, and get an ideal result, and use two methods to calculate the recommendations in the earthwork calculation, a group of smaller difference, data for the calculation results.
