All PCT-SAFE software is available freely for download from the WIPO web site. There are 5 steps to electronic filing using PCT-SAFE software: Click First: The application body (description, claims, abstract and drawings) should be in a format accepted by the receiving Office. For example, it could be prepared in text format prescribed, using the PCT-SAFE Editor and leading to the maximum fee discount of about 327 Australian dollars. The use of PDF format is also possible for certain RO s) Click Second: The request form should be prepared using the PCT-SAFE client. This software is based on and contains PCT-EASY functionality. Since Jan 2004 it has been adopted for use by thousands of PCT filers, when PCT-EASY as a separate product was discontinued. The PCT-EASY route is well known in Australia. In 2003 65% of PCT filings with RO/AU were prepared using PCT-EASY format, well above the average of 45%. Click. Third: A digital certificate is used to digitally sign the application using PCT-SAFE. The certificate is used to make a secure connection with an office system and to ensure that the content of a filing is guaranteed as identical for the office and the applicant. The WIPO Customer Certification Authority permits the distribution of certificate on-line. Click. Fourth: The filing is either sent on-line over the internet or saved onto physical media and sent by normal means to the RO. Click. Last: If a filing is made on-line, a receipt containing filing information such as the international application number and the date of receipt is sent to the filer.
