We can split the interview process into three parts…. The word split is a verb, meaning ‘to break or divide sth. into two or more parts’. e.g. Let’s split this big topic into four smaller ones. This allows you to prepare good answers and means you won’t have to answer questions off the top of your head during the interview. The idiom off the top of your head means ‘from the knowledge you have in your memory’. e.g. He was famous for being able to answer difficult questions off the top of his head. Off the top of my head, I can only think of one post office near here. 7. It can also give you the edge over other candidates, so remember to check your spelling, punctuation and grammar. … The idiom give you the edge over sb./sth. means ‘to have a small advantage over sb./sth.’. e.g. Good boxers are always looking for something to give them the edge over their opponents in a fight.
