Scheme of Work - Activity Planner Year 9 Textiles – Masks
LEARNING OBJECTIVE KEY
SKILL LNF POS ACTIVITIES AND TASKS RESOURCE To introduce the project to the group identifying the need to work through a design process in order to create a mask.
Pupils to establish project brief and use the brief to aid thinking for devising specifications.
Analyse the theme (festival masks).
To generate a range of initial ideas using suitable presentation techniques and detailed written comments.
Develop the final design solution stemming from design ideas.
Pupils to begin manufacturing of chosen design. Reinforce pattern making and emphasise health and safety issues prior to beginning construction.
Manufacture of chosen idea – emphasise at outset risk assessment – use of pins, scissors etc.

5.2 Teacher explanation on the design process and what type of mask to create in order to establish a clear understanding.
Pupils to look at design brief for project and discuss with group and teachers possible ideas and solutions paying attention to specifications.
Class discussion and group brainstorm using board to record suggestions as a star diagram – pupils use this to create their own analysis. Use of internet and textbooks to gain ideas and inspiration.
Pupils to produce 3 detailed mask ideas which link to major theme, showing use of colour, shape, texture, creative ideas and machine stitch. Individual work commences after group discussion. Pupils must measure the dimensions of the face to ensure the mask functions;
