Bicycle Crash Data ‐ 2012    Local Law 13 of 2011 requires the NYC Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) to  report on the total number of bicycle crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are reported to  city agencies beginning October 1, 2011.        This document contains the number of reported crashes, disaggregated by borough and  by police precinct, with injury (i.e. non‐fatal injuries) and fatality totals, for the reporting  period of January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012, involving only bicycles, between  bicycles and motorized vehicles, and between bicycles and pedestrians.   NYCDOT has  further disaggregated crashes involving only bicycles to include crashes between  bicycles and crashes involving a single bicycle.  A summary is also provided of injuries  and fatalities involving motor vehicles during the same time period.   During this period,  there were 54,821 injuries and 275 fatalities involving motor vehicles.        The number of crashes involving motor vehicles is tabulated from police accident  reports (MV‐104 reports), and reported to NYCDOT by the NYC Police Department  (NYPD).   The number of crashes involving bicycles but not involving motor vehicles is  tabulated from MV‐104 reports and AIDED reports filed by NYPD in response to  incidents that do not involve a motor vehicle, and reported to NYCDOT by NYPD.       For information on bicycle safety, see the NYC Cycling Risk Indicator, which describes  changes in cyclist safety over the past decade while accounting for the increase in  bicycle use in New York City.        2012 Pedestrian, Bicyclist, and Motor Vehicle Occupant Injuries and Fatalities by Crash Type Source: NYPD Note:    Occupants include motor vehicle drivers, passengers, and motorcyclists
