A multiwavelength iber laser based on nonlinear polarization rotation with up to 18 wavelengths has been proposed and demonstrated. The intensity and wavelengthdependent loss induced by nonlinear polarization rotation e ect is used to alleviate the mode competition in the homogeneous broadening gain medium o erbiumdoped iber . Instead o traditional ilters, a polarizationmaintaining iber is inserted into the laser cavity, with which the polarizationdependent isolator composes an equivalent Lyot bire ringent iber ilter . The inline bire ringence iber ilter is used to simpli y the laser con iguration, which bene its systematic integration. The e ect o the 980 nm pump power on the multiwav elength generation is investigated. It is shown that the pump power contributes a lot to the evenness o the multiwavelength spectra due to the intensity dependene o nonlinear polarization rotation e ect.
