Vo1．87No．6PP．1712—1723 ACTAGEOLOGICASINICA (EnglishEdition) Dec．2013 GeochemicalCharacteristicsofEolianDepositsintheChengduPlainof SichuanProvinceandtheImplicationsforProvenance TANYuanlong，QIAOYansong，，ZHAOZhizhong，WANGYan，QILin，FUJianli， LIUZongxiu ，YAO Haitao ，WANG Shubing andJIANGFuchu 1InstituteofGeomechanics，ChineseAcademyofGeologicalSciences，Bejiing100081，China 2KeyLaboratoryofNeotectonicMovementandGeohazard,Bejiing100081，China Abstract：InthisstudyChengduRedEarth(CRE)fromtheChengduPlain(CP)，Sichuanprovince， wasanalyzedforitselemental(majorandtraceelements)andisotopic(Sm-Nd)geochemistryand comparedwith Pleistocene loessandpaleosolsamplesfrom theChineseLoessPlateau fCLP1in Northern China．Thegeochemicalcomposition ofCRE issimilarto north China loess．and also resemblestheaverageUCC．ThisindicatesthatCRE．asloessdepositsinNorthernChina。wasderived from well—mixed sedimentary protolithsthathave undergone numerous upper crustalrecycling processes．However．obviousdifferencesin the~eochemicalcharacteristics0fCRE and thenorth ChinaloessarealsorevealedinourresuIts．Forchemicallystableelem ents，CREhashi~herTi。Zr。Hf andlower∑REE．Bacontentsincomparisonwithloesssamplesrfom theCLP．Furtheranal~rsisshows ． thatCREhashigherTiO2／A1203，SiO2／A1203，Ba／RbandlowerCe，Yb，Eu／Yb，LaN／YbN and∑LREE／ ∑HREEratios．InSm-Ndisotopicgeochemistry，Sm andNdcontentandtheENd(O1valueinCREare significantlyhigherthanthoseinnorthChinaloess．ThehigherTiO2contentinCRE coincidedwitha highbackground concentrationofTiintheSichuanBasin andthesurroundingregions．Thelower ∑I EandhigherSm，Nd， d(0)valuesarerelatedtothewidedistributionofbasaltinthesouth
