Just as Wilkins(1976:86) holds,“Without grammar, very little could be conveyed, while without vocabulary, nothing could be conveyed.” So vocabulary is worth paying attention to in language teaching and learning . Secondly, the amounts of vocabulary directly have a great effect on the students’ skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, etc. Therefore, vocabulary teaching is an important part in English teaching in senior high school. Research Motivation Research Motivation Thirdly, grammar teaching has been focusing on in our traditional English teaching while vocabulary teaching is ignored. However, in the national college entrance examination, vocabulary is paid more and more attention to. What’s more, according to Senior Middle School English Curriculum Standard (2003), the number of vocabulary for senior high school students has increased from 2000 to 3000. So how to improve English vocabulary teaching becomes an urgent
